Do You Feel Unable To Relax And Stop Thinking About The Future?
Are you suffering from ruminating thoughts and fear of what will happen next? Is there a persistent feeling of tension in your body? Do you feel unable to relax during the day and unable to sleep at night?
Anxiety can interfere with every aspect of your life. Maybe you struggle to stay focused at work or attentive to the people you love. When you think about the future, perhaps a feeling of impending doom creeps in. It’s as if your mind races ahead to the worst-case scenario in every situation. As a result, maybe you can’t seem to slow down and enjoy the present.
Strained Relationships Are Often The Main Culprit Of Anxiety
Anxiety often goes hand in hand with relationship issues. For instance, you may have developed certain beliefs that your loved ones don’t agree with. Perhaps you and your partner just don’t see eye to eye anymore. Or maybe you feel stuck in a family role that you matured out of a long time ago. As your own identity has changed, so have your relationships, and that could be putting intense stress on your life.
If you’re tired of feeling stuck in a tailspin of anxiety, we would be honored to help you manage your symptoms more effectively. Here at Heart & Mind Counseling, our goal is to give you the skills and the wisdom to stay grounded and prevent anxiety from interfering with your life.
Many People Suffer From Anxiety Because Of A Crisis Of Identity
Life is full of change, and change creates stress. It’s only natural to experience fear and uncertainty when you’re going through a time of transition. Sometimes being anxious can even help you be prepared and alert during stressful times.
Anxiety is often driven by major life transitions like moving, divorcing, having kids, or losing a loved one. But there are many subtler changes that can cause stress—a shift in perspective, a crisis of purpose, or a realization that you want something fundamentally different out of life. In many ways these transitions are just as stressful.
It’s Normal To Experience Anxiety After A Major Accomplishment Or Milestone
Ironically, many crises of identity happen in the wake of major accomplishments or milestones. As humans, we tend to set goals for ourselves without planning for what comes next. Whether our goal is to start a business, write a novel, or settle down and raise a family, few of us consider what will happen after we accomplish those things. What happens if the values that drove us for most of our lives don’t really drive us anymore? What happens if the goals that once meant the world to us don’t matter as much?
We all grow and change and we all need people who will help us weather our seasons of growth and change. That’s what anxiety therapy is for. This is a chance to navigate the ups and downs of life with someone who cares deeply for your well-being and can help you carve out a path for the future.
Therapy Can Help You Get To The Bottom Of Your Anxiety
Sometimes it’s hard to find a place where you can lay all your feelings bare without any fear of judgment. Other people may invalidate what you’re going through or simply not understand what it’s like to have anxiety. Here at Heart & Mind Counseling, you don’t have to suppress anything or worry about being misunderstood. We provide a space for you to unpack all your thoughts and feelings with someone who is supportive, encouraging, and non-judgmental.
Your anxiety therapist will help you get to the bottom of your stressors and provide you with alternative ways to manage anxiety. You will learn to dial down your sense of stress activation and respond to your fears in a way that is calmer, more measured, and more thoughtful. The goal is not to eliminate anxiety, but to regulate it so that it doesn’t control your life.
What To Expect In Our Anxiety Therapy Sessions
Anxiety is almost always a symptom of a deeper issue, such as trauma, genetics, and other causes outside of your control. This is why you can’t just “turn it off” with the flip of a switch.
Therapy is a chance to explore the deeper problem that’s fueling your anxiety. Maybe a negative perception of yourself was imprinted on you at a young age. Perhaps certain experiences or relationships taught you that you weren’t “good enough,” leading to a state of continual anxiety. Together, we’ll examine the underlying beliefs at the root of your stress.
That said, therapy isn’t just about digging into the past, but making adjustments in the present. Your anxiety counselor will help you figure out what small changes will improve your quality of life. Can you achieve a healthier work-life balance? Do you need new relationships or healthier boundaries? How much energy do you expend in your relationships and how much do you get back? Answering these questions will inform how we deal with your stressors.
No matter how hopeless you feel, you’ve made a huge step just by reaching out and seeking help. Your therapist will walk alongside you through your fears, challenges, uncertainty, and concerns. Together, we will sort through your emotions, unpack your thoughts, and come up with solutions that allow you to experience peace in your life.
You May Have Some Questions About Anxiety Counseling…
I have never been to therapy before. How does it work?
Therapy is essentially just having a chat with someone where you can say whatever is on your mind. You lead the way and decide what to work on; our role is simply offering insight, perspective, and clarity on your ideas. It’s important to know that we’ll only go as far as you’re comfortable with. If you’re experiencing strong or overpowering emotions, we can do somatic work to address the anxiety in your body and help you get to a calmer place.
How often do I have to do therapy?
It depends on you and your schedule! In the beginning, it’s good to meet once a week just to get everything unloaded and begin some interventions. After you start feeling a little better, you can always switch to meeting every other week or as often as you see fit. There is no pressure to remain in anxiety treatment longer than you feel is necessary.
Will anxiety therapy really help me?
Patience is key. As long as you are kind to yourself and understand that you can’t just conquer anxiety overnight, it is fully possible to experience healing. Every client that we’ve ever seen who has stuck with therapy has experienced a change for the better.
You Don’t Have To Struggle With Anxiety Alone Anymore
If you’re tired of feeling like no one understands what you’re going through, we would be honored to give you the encouragement, support, and validation you need.
Together, we can help you re-assemble the pieces of your puzzle so you can move forward with your life – one that leads to a sense of happiness, satisfaction, and fulfillment.
Don’t let anxiety keep you in a vicious cycle. It’s time to take a different journey, one that eliminates that cycle of entanglement, and helps you regain your sense of self and a positive outlook.
