Collaborative Work in a Calm and Supportive Space
Hi! I’m Meletina Taerbaum and I’m ready to help you meet your mental health needs. I believe that we all deserve the right to a healthy and happy life and that counseling is an avenue to reaching that life. I am a counselor who believes in working collaboratively in a calm and supportive environment. Together we can identify goals and work to meet them in ways that feel safe and comfortable to you.
When we first meet we will focus on creating a therapeutic relationship and focusing on making sure that you are comfortable with the work that we will be doing. We will work collaboratively to identify your goals and work on a plan to meet them. Our sessions will be 50 minutes long and we use that time to focus on what you feel is important.
Our work together will be taken at your pace as we slowly work through all of your goals. How often we decide to meet will be decided by you and can be weekly, biweekly, every three weeks, or monthly. We will work collaboratively to identify what works best for your schedule and needs and we can change the frequency of our meetings at any time.
Depending on your specific needs I may ask you to practice skills outside of sessions and use the occasional worksheet or “homework” assignment to continue processing. These assignments or skills will be discussed fully in sessions and will be decided on by both of us collaboratively.
As the child of a refugee raised in a culturally diverse environment, I have always been fascinated with other people’s stories and how their past shapes who they are. Over time, it became obvious that this interest has led to increased empathy and a desire to understand the reasons behind other people’s actions. These interests led me to become a counselor who is focused on helping others learn skills to address their concerns and offering a safe space to process.
About Me
I have broad ranging experience to inform my ability to help
My unique experiences as a first-generation American, Native American, wife, mother of a medically complex child, and more have taught me that life is complex and we are all in this together. We can work on our issues and gain support if we are ready.
I received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Oregon University and a Master’s in Mental Health and Addictions Counseling from Lewis & Clark College in Portland Oregon. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in several states.
I am trauma-informed and have experience working in community mental health, hospitals, jails, mental health hospitals, and outpatient mental health programs for adults and adolescents. I am also trained in several therapeutic techniques including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
