About Katie

Our work together will be  safe space for you.

Welcome! I am Katie Dines and if you have found me that means you are likely looking for some support and have some questions about what that may be like. Coming to therapy with me is a space that is safe to share and work through the more difficult parts of your life. Together, we will explore and emphasize your personal strengths and life experiences to help you discover and become your truest and most free self. We will work through your current issues, and although this may create some discomfort, my goal is to create a space that makes the process more manageable.

When we first meet, we will start by building a therapeutic relationship. We will do this at a pace that feels comfortable for you. You will have time to share your experiences in an environment where you will have the floor completely, or at times, if you have trouble finding words you will have validation in your experience.

Our sessions will be about 50 minutes during which time we will collaborate and dive into the things that are causing you distress.

Our work together will be a building block for you.

In our continued time together, we will gradually progress at a pace that feels safe and when you are ready, I will encourage that you take small steps outside your comfort zone to promote personal growth. At times, you may have some “homework” to do in between sessions; however, if that is difficult for you, we can discuss choices that you are comfortable with.

As we near the end of each session you will have time to address anything you have left lingering on your mind. If there is anything, we will address it. If we run out of time together, we will be sure to discuss ways you can ground yourself and create a safe “container” to put the issue away until we meet again. It is important that you don’t leave feeling as though things are unfinished. You will leave assured that we will have time and space to revisit where we left off.

Over time, we will work together to progress on your identified goals.  You will develop confidence in your ability to independently manage the peaks and valleys of your life. After some time working together, we can decrease the amount of time spent meeting as you will develop the tools to effectively manage difficulties on your own. Eventually, we will no longer need to meet, which means you have reached your goals; however, if stressful events present down the line and you are in need of some additional support, I will be here.

About Me

The work I do is also a passion for me.

As far back as I can recall, I have had an ability to step foot in someone else’s story and have empathy for whatever unique crisis or situation they may be facing. Along the way it became clear that my passion was to help people love and understand themselves, despite their challenges, to allow the space for personal growth.

Even though this seemed to be a clear path for me my life experiences have given me a unique insight into the struggles others may face. Raising a child on my own, dealing with losing someone to addiction, and having firsthand experience with loved ones who suffered from mental health issues were some of the challenges I have overcome. Keep in mind, we are all a work in progress

My educational and professional qualifications…

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Eastern Michigan University and a Master’s degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University.

I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Michigan and Vermont

I have extensive trauma training and I am currently working toward becoming a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor.

My life is not all work.

In my time away from work I enjoy traveling, playing fetch with my dog, listening to music, and kayaking. I would love to learn to begin yoga in the future.
