You have to feel it to free it.

Hey there! I’m Katie and I’m so glad you’re searching for a safe place for yourself. Starting therapy can be scary, so it’s important for you to feel that your therapist is a safe space. When our therapeutic relationship begins, we will work on building rapport and trust with each other so that when we get into the heavy parts of your life, you feel safe and comfortable sharing with me. My goal is for you to discover new strengths in yourself, explore how your experiences have shaped you into the person you are today, and to help you incorporate new coping skills into your everyday life!

Each session with me will be around 55 minutes. Therapy looks different for everyone, so you may meet with me once a week, twice a week, or maybe even once every two weeks. We will evaluate your goals and needs during our first session to create a treatment plan that works to meet all of your goals. We will monitor those goals and needs throughout every session by “check ins” and what you share with me. As we get deeper into your therapeutic journey, you may need/want to increase or decrease sessions. Remember, this is your journey and you have the right to increase or decrease at any time!

Just like in school or work, sometimes everything can’t be finished in one day. So, I may give you some tools or “homework” at the end of our session. It is up to you to utilize these tools and/or complete the homework, but in no way mandatory to continue therapy. I get it! Some weeks just seem to pass to fast and you may not get to it. The next time we meet we can review those tools and/or homework and continue progressing in therapy.

I hope to meet you in person soon!

About Me

The work I do is also a passion for me.

Around 11 years old I read a book called “The Christmas Hope” and the social worker in the book inspired me to want to have a career as a social worker. I have seen firsthand where a social worker would have been beneficial for family and friends. I have always dreamed of being a light in other’s lives and empowering others to find the strength within themselves. Being a therapist has helped me accomplish this dream and be in the front row of watching others change their lives.

I have been in therapy myself and know what it is like to be the client. It can be scary and intimidating, but I firmly believe “you have to feel it to free it”. So, it’s important to keep a check on your mental health and allow yourself to feel your true feelings in the safe space of therapist’s office.

Both of my children are medically fragile and this requires extensive attention to details and advocacy. I understand the frustration and difficulty of constantly dealing with doctor’s offices and fighting for yourself. I am excited to be considered as your therapist in journey!

My educational and professional qualifications…

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Jacksonville State University and earned my Master’s degree in Social Work at Walden University.

Outside of Work

I am a diehard Alabama football fan, ROLL TIDE ROLL! I love flowers, sunsets, and the beach. If I could pack up and move to the beach today, I would! I enjoy going on adventures to new states and countries with my husband, and being a total nerd for the latest therapy research.
