Our work focuses on making the unbearable – bearable.
Hi! My name is Dr. Corinne Smorra – please call me Corinne. Participating in therapy with me is meant to be comfortable for you. We will do a lot of work together, but my goal is to make “walking through” your uncomfortable moments more bearable.
Our first session (and every session) will begin with what is currently on your mind. If there are several items, we will go over them. Then you will decide what is most important to discuss.
Our sessions last for about 45 minutes, in which we will do “work.” It will not necessarily feel like it, as you will leave feeling “lighter” and relieved to be able to get some things off your mind.
Other days, the “work” will feel more “draining,” and you may be a bit tired after our session because you were able to dig deeper into some issues. On those days, you may either go home and take a nap or sleep well that night.
Our work together goes beyond your sessions.
Our work is a gradual and continuous process that moves at a pace your mind and body can handle. In between sessions, you may receive some “homework” that we have agreed to in our session. If that becomes overwhelming, we will create alternatives with which you will be more comfortable.
Near the end of each session, we check in to see if anything else is on your mind. If there is something else, we address it. When we do not have time to address that issue entirely, we will plan to cover it in the next session, but make sure you are comfortable getting what you need off your chest before you leave so you do not feel “completely twisted inside and unable to function.”
We work together over time to achieve the goals you desire, along with helping you become self-sufficient to deal with life’s curveballs.
As you begin to feel better and experience fewer bumps in the road, we can taper back our sessions to your comfort level. Along the way, you may want to come back more often because things come up, and you want to work on them together. For those times, I am here for you.
About Me
Personal experience provides me a unique perspective.
I am passionate about helping people overcome their struggles and working with them to achieve independence because I have firsthand experience with challenges and struggles.
My life experiences include dealing with a chronic disease, losses due to illness, health insurance issues, and financial hurdles. In addition, I had to make my way through the business world in high-pressure marketing, advertising, and real estate positions. These ordeals give me a thorough perspective of the realities you face every day.
My educational and professional qualifications…
I received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Western Michigan University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Western New Mexico University. My Doctorate in Social Work is from Walden University. If you want to read my dissertation, click this link: Dissertation

My life is not all work.
I enjoy walking, biking, yoga, making jewelry, anything with water (lake, beach, river, pool) during my free time, and hopefully, soon, I will return to tennis and golf. My interests include fashion and cars.
Also, I have difficulty walking by a dog without petting it; I have yet to see someone walk a cat.
